Medik8 Partners With PADI AWARE Foundation to Drive Ocean Rehabilitation
International cosmeceutical brand, Medik8 has announced its alliance with ocean conservation group, PADI AWARE as its latest sustainability initiative.
The partnership serves as the next phase of Medik8’s revamped sustainability strategy, whereby working with a charity partner was to serve as a key social investment.
Medik8 founder, Elliot Isaacs – an ocean lover and PADI Master Scuba Diver – played an instrumental role in the decision to work with PADI AWARE.
The partnership will see Medik8 sponsor four of PADI AWARE Foundation’s Community Grant Recipients to help restore and protect the planet’s most productive ecosystem and help tackle some of the biggest issues facing the ocean today.
The first project to be undertaken is entitled Kosamare Seagrass Restoration and will be based in Kefalonia, Greece.
The aim of this project will be to engage the local community to monitor and restore seagrass (Posidonia) meadows in the Mediterranean Sea.
The ultimate goals for this project are to significantly increase the seagrass meadows (a blue carbon habitat), increase biodiversity through associated species that are reliant on seagrass beds, and to advance protection measures for the wider Ionian sea.
On the move, Medik8’s Head of Sustainability Alexandra Florea said in a press statement: “Working with grassroots organisations who understand exactly what is needed on the ground will mean we can generate the greatest positive impact on our shared planet.”
“We chose PADI Aware Foundation as our first charitable partner because, like us, they put science at the heart of everything they do to bring about positive results.”
There are four key pillars that make up Medik8’s sustainability strategy for 2023: Climate Action, Waste Reduction, Ethical Business, and Social Investment.
