The 2023 Oscars took place today and while Everything Everywhere All At Once swept the awards, there were some clear overwhelming hair and beauty trends too.

We looked at the red carpet to discern the major hair trends of the day.

Slicked Back

Slicked back and sleek was undoubtedly the trend of the ceremony. Celebrities such as Lady Gaga and Vanessa Hudgens scraped their hair back into a tight bun, while Mindy Kaling utilised this wet look in longer locks.

Swept Back

Hair styled back and off the face continued to be a trend, even in drier, more tousled styles. Kate Hudson showed this, as styled by Goldwell, with her hair down, while Zendaya stood out with a swept back short style.

Intricate Braids

Complex and detailed braiding was a favourite trend of the night. Halle Bailey paired a fittingly mermaid style dress with a braided upstyle, and Ashley Graham’s braids similarly proved a standout.

Hair Height

Piling hair up was the direction of choice for many A-listers, from Florence Pugh’s twisted style into a fringe, Sofia Carson’s classic up style and Danai Gurira’s bona fide hair tower.

Messy Buns

While slick and sleek was the more prominent aesthetic, some celebrities, such as Rihanna and Winnie Harlow, went for tousled up styles instead.
