3 Met Gala 2023 Hair Trends
The 2023 Met Gala has come and gone, hosting A-listers at their most Avant Garde, all in the name of this year’s theme – Karl Lagerfeld. This year’s trends, as always, ranged in extremes, and our favourite “trend” of sorts, was literally cats, with celebrities such as Doja Cat and Jared Leto dressing up as Karl Lagerfeld’s dearly loved Choupette.
We’ve tracked three hair trends straight from the steps of the Met to intrigue your clients.
1. Granny Hair
Grey hair or “granny hair”, a big hair trend of yesteryear, was prominent at the 2023 Met Gala, as seen on celebrities such as Cardi B, Cara Delevingne and Phoebe Bridgers. Cara’s shaggy bob and Cardi’s retro 60s style were standouts.
The trend was also a classic for the men, with Jeremy Strong, as styled by American Crew, rocking it as well.
2. Major Transformations
If your clients are looking for a major change, the Met Gala gave them license, with celebrities stepping out transformed. Notably, Jessica Chastain, an ever famous redhead, went platinum blonde for the occasion, while Florence Pugh paired her new buzz cut, also in trending grey, with a sculptural headpiece, hitting many trends at once. Clients, take note!
3. Sculptural Looks
In classic Met Gala fashion, piled high sculptural hair looks gave some inspiration for your upcoming bridal and event looks. Quinta Brunson’s headline-making trio of sculptural circles and Janelle Monae asymmetrical tower were highlights.
