AAFW 23: Redken X Cue
Glamour versus grunge and 90s nostalgia defined the runway hair looks for Cue, as the renowned fashion brand took to Afterpay Australian Fashion Week with styling by Redken and Diane Gorgievski.
“The hair in the Cue show encapsulated the epitome of juxtaposition,” Diane said. “I wanted to create looks that showcased a version of the unpolished-polish or, as I like to say, undone-done. I was inspired by the 90s catwalk and the music era that shaped me as a stylist.”
The look complemented the 90s silhouettes of the collection, with three different styles sent down the runway.
“We had grunge versus glamour, where we had the beautiful blow dry and broke it up with tongs and products. Then we showcased a straight blow dry, bringing that 90s element to the runway, where there’s a middle part, dead straight and super shiny hair with fly aways, then we have an array of super cool hair cuts,” Diane said.
The hero look was achieved by blow drying the hair with Redken Guts Root Lifter to accentuate the peak, brushing the hair upwards and backwards to create height in the quiff from the forehead. Then, the team deconstructed the entire hairline using Redken Forceful 23 Super Strength Hairspray creating an undone texture with a wide tooth comb, then a one-inch tong to add a bent texture through the hair. The necessary finishing tool was Redken Shine Flash.
“There was a melting pot of two kinds. We really based it on the 90s and juxtaposed glamour and grunge, so we had really clean lines and then we went in and messed it up,” Diane shared.
