Japanese ceremonial styles created with plenty of hair length and volume was the brief as Karla Špetić took to day three of Australian Fashion Week with Revlon Professional as the hair partner. Complementing the ‘Ikgai’, translated as ‘reason for being’ collection, the backstage team, led by renowned hairdresser Uros Mikic, worked on 29 models with the help of Showpony hair extensions.

The hair team created loose, clean, and straight hairstyles creatively inspired by a modern approach to the conceptual ceremonial hairstyles worn by Japanese women in the Heian period (794-1185 AD), considered the golden age of Japanese culture. Hair extensions added volume, thickness and what Uros describes as a “wow factor”.

The brand’s Style Masters and RE/START product ranges, particularly the Style Masters 2 Modular Mousse Medium Hold, Lissaver and Shine Spray Glamourama, and RE/START Hydration Anti-Frizz Moisturising Drops, were key backstage. Loose low ponytails and braids dotted the line-up.

“We focused on creating lived-in texture while smoothing the hair to perfect the positioning of fabric and ribbon,” Uros shared. “The Revlon Professional team worked with hair extensions to accentuate the natural shape of the hair and create several showstopping long looks to match Karla’s collection.”

“It’s organic, beautiful and super long hair to emphasise Japanese culture going back centuries, how hair was very natural with an element of edginess, geometrics and fringes. We’ve added fabrics into the hair to tie into the clothes and add texture to the hair. Styling-wise it’s all about smooth, effortless key elements but adding the texture with the fabric to add a little more interest.”

• Step five: Loosely pull the hair into a low ponytail and attach ribbons to sections of the hair.
