AFW 24: Wella X Speed
Speed took to Sydney’s Aquarium, as the creative show walked in the space’s underwater tunnel amongst colourful marine life on night four of Australian Fashion Week. Legendary hairdresser Renya Xydis and Wella styled and coloured for the show, titled Electric Sun, with a fittingly dazzling and wet hair brief in three creative looks.
“Inspired by the beauty of rebirth, we’ve curated intricate hair looks showcasing web-like, bejewelled and wet hair creations using Wella Professionals, to signify the solar evloution as represented in Alvi Chung’s collection,” Renya shared.
Three hair looks were created within this aesthetic. First, the Wet French Roll was a slicked back look into a French roll as secured with French pins. The look was adorned with bejewelled and coloured hair pieces on the part and around the hair line for a solar-inspired look, with the brand’s EIMI Extra-Volume Mousse and Glam Mist as hero products. Next, the Gel Swirl made use of EIMI Sculpt Force to create an intricate web-like style by saturating coloured hair and applying the product on top of smoothed and flattened hair in a swirly motion, before setting it with a hair dryer. The third look, titled the Bejewelled Wet Look, adorned pieces around the sides and back of the hair, with hair slicked down thanks to the Extra Volume Mousse with a centre part. Glam Mist and rolling the hair into buns then finished and set the hair.
The team also mixed and creatively applied hair colour for hero looks backstage, highlighting dramatic sunset shades, with the brand’s colour, care and styling products all wielded in the backstage process.
The Electric Sun collection utilised regenerated materials to symbolise the transformation of fashion, signifying an evolution in fashion and consciousness, in what the designer says reflects “humanity’s transcendence and adaptation in a world reborn from the ashes”.
