AFW 24: Schwarzkopf Professional X INJURY

INJURY’s Australian Fashion Week show on the fashion extravaganza’s final day was a sensorial experience. Titled 55555, the show merged multidisciplinary art forms across fashion, film, music, 3D art and hair looks courtesy of Schwarzkopf Professional hair directors Jason Fassbender and Dee Parker Attwood.

The fashion show put forward 37 looks incorporating womenswear, menswear, footwear, bags and jewellery as well as 3D wearable art pieces in an overall aesthetic inspired by goth culture, biker aesthetics and sci-fi influences, as reflected the audacious hair looks.

Hair looks spanned from sleek, high-shine, gravity defying silhouettes, contrasted with bold streaks of colour, to sculpted braids, goth-style natural textures, monochrome fades and sharp edges with blunt lines, slick wet looks and finger wave styling. Beyond sci-fi, goth influences and a biker vibe, these looks also referenced the resilient beauty of the Australian landscape and the desert.

“The hair brief for today was goths, punks and misfits, we created 19 individual characters as opposed to one uniform look to really bring the vision together,” Jason said. “One of the biggest inspirations, on the longer hair shapes, especially for the boys, was Marilyn Manson, and then some really strong, sharp graphic hair cuts, like Rooney Mara in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo type of vibe, so you’ll see some really dark, solid, strong shapes on the runway.”

“The fashion collection is super individual and has a goth punk element to it, so being able to create hair specifically for that has been really exciting.”

The hair team utilised wig work and hair cuts into wigs and toppers to create these strong shapes, as put over hair and blended in to create the shapes. The SESSION LABEL range was necessary in creating these versatile looks.

“This is my dream come true to have such freedom at Fashion Week, I think it’s unbelievable, it’s not just a fashion show and a music show, but also like a hair show,” Dee said, referencing the show’s red spikes, short fringes, blonde spikes and braids as hero looks, as well as the men’s looks in the show.
