A Spectacular Showcase of Innovation and Insight at In-Cosmetics Asia 2024

A Spectacular Showcase of Innovation and Insight at In-Cosmetics Asia 2024

In-Cosmetics Asia 2024 took place earlier this month in Bangkok, drawing a record-breaking 650 global exhibitors, the largest in the event’s 15-year history. It centred around four key pillars: science, innovation, trends, and community, offering a dynamic space for professionals to connect with industry advancements shaping Asia’s booming beauty market.

One standout feature was the Interactive Floor Plan, making it easy for attendees to navigate the exhibition and connect with exhibitors. Brands like Shanghai Cosroma Biotech, Clariant, and newcomer NEOrli Biomaterial were easily accessible through this digital tool, which allowed users to pinpoint key locations and discover must-see activations.

The Formulation Lab offered hands-on education with sessions led by industry leaders, including Clariant, Nikko Chemicals, and Innospec. The labs allowed R&D teams to learn new hands-on techniques in foundations, UV protection, anti-acne care, and sustainable cleansing. Industry expert Dr Oliver Hofmann also led a Q&A addressing formulation challenges, offering attendees actionable safety, stability, and ingredient compatibility insights.

Debuting this year was the Cosmetic Conference, hosted in partnership with the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC). Featuring experts from L’Oréal, Shiseido, and A*Star Skin Research Labs, talks ranged from the role of AI in cosmetics to the impact of the skin microbiome.

A common theme was the evolution of beauty standards in Asia. Markets like China and Japan are witnessing a shift toward “better-ageing”, with 24% of women in China aged 18-24 believing beauty brands promote unattainable images. Similarly, Japan’s $21.8 billion beauty market increasingly embraces skin resilience and longevity. The heightened focus on skin health and authenticity is also reflected in a surge of consumer interest in ingredients. For example, ‘antioxidants’ now receives 5.5 times more search traffic than ‘anti-ageing’.

The renowned Innovation Zone displayed over 100 new ingredients with cutting-edge solutions, competing for the prestigious In-Cosmetics Asia Awards, honouring those setting the bar in skincare innovation.

In the Actives Category, Givaudan Active Beauty took Gold for Neuroglow™, an ingredient that mimics the benefits of sunlight and releases mood-boosting molecules like beta-endorphin—a powerful combo as consumer interest grows in “inside-out” beauty benefits.

In the Functional Category, Lucas Meyer Cosmetics by Clariant received Gold for Pickmulse™. This breakthrough emulsifier helps formulators create stable, luxurious textures without surfactants—appealing to brands looking to merge clean beauty with innovative formulation.

Bitop’s Shine Control Moisture Fusion Fluid with Ectoin® won Gold in the Spotlight On Award. Known for its strong cell-protecting properties, Ectoin® helps reduce environmental damage and inflammation—ideal for modern formulations targeting sensitive, urban skin.

Sarah Gibson, Event Director, commended the winners. “The industry’s drive for innovation is ever-evolving, with each year bringing fresh ideas and remarkable advancements. This year’s awards were especially competitive, and we’re proud of all participants.”

In-Cosmetics Asia will return to Bangkok in November 2025, setting the bar ever higher for what’s next in personal care.
