5 makeup trends to watch out for
As the countdown to the new decade begins, celebrity makeup artist Tobi Henney shares the makeup trends you need to know, writes Jenny Berich.
Originally hailing from Sydney and now based in New York, Tobi has ‘painted’ the faces of some of the world’s most beautiful celebrities including Ashley Graham, Poppy Delevingne, Georgia Fowler, Barbara Palvin and Margaret Zhang and also appeared in advertising campaigns for brands such as Clinique, Maybelline and Anthropology.
Here are her five key trends for you and your clients to try in the coming months.
Warm-toned eyeshadows
“Try switching taupe and chocolate shadows for orange and reds in 2020. Matte tones in this colour palette work best in the crease. They are a fun way to create a new look if you are looking to experiment with colour! We are seeing a lot of these tones on celebrities on red carpets and they look great on all eye colours.”
Matte lips
“Switch up your lip glosses for matte lipsticks. Experiment with 90s brown tones and neutral colours to suit your skin tone. 1990s fashion is right on trend and what better way to complement this style than with a 90s lip?”
Skin is in
“If you and your clients haven’t already amped up your skincare routine, now is the time to add a new product to your/their routine. There are many amazing serums, toners and moisturisers to create beautiful, healthy skin. The better our skin is looking, the less base we tend to rely on.”
Fun liner looks
“We are seeing more and more beauty brands come out with fun coloured and metallic liners. This is a great way to try new creative makeup looks. From small flicks to more graphic shapes, switching brown and black liners for blues and greens is a great way to change up a makeup look.”
Beautiful brows
Brows are going to be groomed and full in 2020. Try using a pencil to fill in any gaps and a powder shadow to build a full shaped brow. Gel can be used to set the hairs in place. I love the impact a brow can have on a makeup look and we see this on the runways around the world and on the streets. They frame the face and are a beauty trend here to stay.”
