Making The Most Out Of Your Team During Quieter Periods
Is your business feeling the post-holiday hangover? Then SPA+CLINIC has you covered for your New Years training & team building resolutions.
Depending on your business, the new year can either be an exciting or daunting time, both financially and productively. For businesses that are more quieter over the new year, whether you have a large team or smaller, and are wondering on how to make the most of your team if the books aren’t completely full, our writer and Dermal Therapist Taneesa has shared some tips on how to make your spare time both productive and also fun for your team.
Skill Building
For skin clinics, being at the forefront of skin conditions is paramount. Print out (or download) some case studies for your team to discuss together in teams/groups, how they would approach it and why, and what skincare regime they would find most appropriate.
For beauty salons or spas, discuss any of your product lines, what products are you each loving the most or not loving. Take this as an opportunity to find out why some of your products may not be selling as much as you’d like them to.
As a manager, you could also take the time to sit down with your team and have them complete an online survey to understand their skills, learning types, and preferences (this will come in handy for later-on in this article).
Team Icebreakers & Trivia
Looking to test your team’s knowledge on your services, product ranges or general day-to-day operations? Hosting a trivia with some great prizes at stake (like a gift card, paid birthday off, or a few products to take home) can be a great way to oversee your team whilst being a great opportunity to learn some extra skills or tips (especially for new team members). Don’t make it too easy though! Structure your trivia with multiple rounds, based on categories.
Alternatively, you could ask your team to each design their own mini presentation on their favourite treatment, product or ingredient, and share with the remainder of the team (you could also include a quiz at the end to test everyone’s listening skills).
Review Your Protocols
Regardless of your business structure, do you pride yourself on your guest experience or consultations? Have you considered reviewing this? The best way is to review your protocols as a team, and see if any changes need to be highlighted in your forms or protocols, but before you officially change things up – send out a feedback form to your client database to gain a true insight on what the experience is really like.
Get Creative
Need to brush up on skills, pre-plan some marketing for social media, or give the business a re-fresh by reorganising the layout? Your team are there to help! Once you have established your team members’ individual skillsets, let them flourish!
Have an underdog marketing wiz? Have them create some new templates on Canva!
Got someone with a love for cleaning and an eye for design? Let them reassemble your visual merchandising or reception layout (even a good cleanup of your tea-room).
Have a creative therapist? Let them show you some of their tricks, you might find a new favourite protocol!
