One-of-a-kind couture took to the runway for Iordanes Spyridon Gogos, with Redken and Rochard Kavanagh backstage to experiment with full creativity for the conceptual show. Richard worked with designer and multidisciplinary artist Jordan Gogos to create 1960s editorial-inspired looks for the runway show, in three aesthetic families that truly merged hair and art.

The fashion collection found beauty in reclaimed textiles by utilising an innovative fabric treatment called “compressing”, a process that compacts fabric remnants together to create unique patterns. The complementary hair looks similarly innovated to the full.

“For the Iordanes Spyridon Gogos show there was an opportunity to push the boundaries of what is achievable on the runway and create impactful sculptural moments with the hair,” Richard said.  “The best way I can describe the hair is that there are three families of crazy – Jordan said to me ‘I want you to think about Akira and origami and express your creativity, when you feel like you get to your limit, jump over the edge’.”

“We’ve created three families of shape and texture. We have geometric shapes like cubes, spheres and cones, channelling 60s vogue editorials. Then we have almost futuristic super slicked gelled texture. Then we have this other vibe, which started as a drawing, I was thinking about Jordan’s motifs that run through the collection – a trojan horse and a teddy bear – and I started sketching shadows of those ideas and they eventually formed this concept for these hair pieces. We’ve got a shroud, a crown and a wave, and I’ve made them out of hair and gel and they’re very weird.”

Richard credits Redken’s Max Sculpt Gel as essential, go-to hero tool for the hold necessary for these artistic looks, with the product assisting in moulding graphic shapes.

“There are some cones that go higher than you can reach so we need maximum hold,” he said.

For the fashion show, Jordan collaborated with iconic fashion designer Akira Isogawa to present historic couture and ready to wear looks, reimagining the over 30-year legacy of Akira through the unique Iordanes Spyridon Gogos lens. Each couture piece was carefully hand-sewn and reflected the essence of both Jordan and Akira’s fashion houses, showcasing innovative techniques made to disrupt the 2023 Australian fashion landscape.
