60s glam took to the streets for macgraw and Wella at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week. Nostalgic, retro hair looks that were slightly undone and lived-in complemented a feminine collection and walked the runway at the House of MacGraw Atelier in Paddington, looking like they were plucked out of the best of yesteryear.

“The inspiration was a nod to nostalgia, reflecting on the 60s, which we also saw in the clothing,” said hair director Keiren Street. “We’re calling the look a Lazy Beehive. She’s been and had her hair done, gone to a party, maybe had an afternoon nap and shown up to the show.”

The runway event was an intimate gathering that presented dreamy, delicate and detailed oriented fashion pieces with floaty fabrics, lace and sequins through the collection.

The feminine designs were complemented by equally feminine hair direction with bouncy blow-dries, volume and soft waves. Sleek, straight hair also featured as a counterpoint and nod to the modern mod movement. Wella’s SP Reverse and EIMI Perfect Setting, Dry Me, Body Crafter, Mistify Me Strong and Mistify Me Glam Mist helped created the look.

Get the nostalgic look:

• STEP 1: Centre part the hair in the front and prep with Wella SP Reverse. In the back, section out the crown and prep the rest of the hair with Wella EIMI Perfect Setting.
• STEP 2: Use a round brush blow-dry the back of the hair curving the ends under so that there is no volume at the roots.
• STEP 3: Go over the blow-dry with a large tong prepping each section with Wella EIMI Mistify Me Light & curving under. Clip to set & repeat in the front section.
• STEP 4: We want maximum volume in the crown. Prep the crown with Wella EIMI Body Crafter & blow- dry, over directing the roots. Then prep the same section with Wella EIMI Mistify Me Light and tong under to create curvaceousness. Pin set and repeat for three sections.
• STEP 5: Unclip the crown sections, brush and re-tong them together. Clip to set. In the front brush the hair out and flatten the curve with a straightener.
• STEP 6: Using a bristle brush and Wella EIMI Dry Me brush hair out and place. Finesse the crown with fingers to give it more texture. Finish with Wella EIMI Glam Mist for shine and Wella Mistify Me Light for hold.
