AFW: Schwarzkopf Professional X LIANDRA

LIANDRA debuted at Australian Fashion Week, with Liandra Gaykamangu launching the Essence collection on-site at Carriageworks and Schwarzkopf Professional providing the hair looks.

Under a backdrop of sunset hues, the collection of sustainably and ethically made women’s ready to wear and reversible swimwear was presented on the runway, inspired by Liandra’s cultural connection to guku, otherwise known as the native honey bee. Expressive prints, summer inspiration and playful, adventurous resort vibes define the collection.

“Essence embodies a multi-dimensional story that is translated through my hand-drawn prints, each a contemporary representation of how I see, experience and appreciate guku and my rich family history and culture,” Liandra shared. “I hope my personal inspiration of guku can be translated to your world. I see honeybees as an unwaveringly powerful symbol for the way we all live our beautifully complex lives – busy, buzzing and a reminder to feel the release and savour the sweetness of the slow sweet moments too.”

“Showcasing at Australian Fashion Week this year for the first time signifies a new era for LIANDRA, Essence captures a moment of transition where we are sharing with the world – we are here,” she continued. “After six years, over the last twelve months we have transitioned the brand from being ‘just’ a swimwear label to ready to wear. With this show we present a more complete, and uniquely Australian lifestyle – one that is designed to encapsulate the beauty, and diversity of our nation, our country and our identities across the globe.”

Schwarzkopf Professional artists and renowned hairdressers Jason Fassbender and Dee Parker Attwood led the way backstage as hair directors, creating looks that enhanced each model’s beauty.

“We wanted the models to look and feel like themselves in the natural elements of Australia. Think, sea, salt, beach and sun with a hint of editorial polish brought through in the subtle detail. Notice the S-bend fringe, sea sprayed wet look styled off the face and healthy curl textures revitalised with volume and shine, using Schwarzkopf Professional SESSION LABEL and OSiS+ Styling products,” the duo said.

“It’s super sexy and embraces natural texture – she’s been at the beach for three days,” Jason continued backstage. “We’re using heaps of sea salt and texture spray in The Texturizer from SESSION LABEL and then as the girls are about to walk we’re going to go in with some Schwarzkopf Professional OSiS+ Sparkler, because we want to have that wet, sweaty look.”
