Australian Hairdressing Council Introduce Hairdressing and Barbering Attraction Strategy

The Australian Hairdressing Council (AHC) have teamed up with the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) to launch the 2024
Hairdressing and Barbering Attraction Strategy. The bold pilot program will run until the end of the year and looks to strengthen the industry by attracting and training emerging hairdressers and barbers through apprenticeships.

“Our mission is to create a thriving workforce that supports the growth of the
hairdressing and barbering sectors,” the AHC explained. “By engaging both aspiring professionals and employers, we can ensure a sustainable future for our industry.”

The program has three educational pillars and resources. First, the organisation recently hosted an Employer webinar, which can be viewed as a recorded session via the AHC’s online job board. The webinar educated on the requirements to successfully hire apprentices, covering common myths, realistic expectations, effective onboarding strategies and on-the-job training tips.

The program will also host an Exploring Careers webinar on Thursday, 17 October, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM, which caters to employment service providers, career counsellors and job seekers. This seminar, titled Styling Success: Careers in Hairdressing and Barbering, will share expert insights into the demand for hairdressers and barbers, job stability and growth opportunities, the creativity and fulfillment a career in this industry can offer and how to secure apprenticeship opportunities and what employers are looking for. You can register for this webinar here.

Beyond this education, the AHC Jobs Board is a vital resource and component of the program, where employers can post apprenticeship opportunities for free.

“This platform connects you with job seekers ready to kickstart their careers. It’s
being promoted across multiple channels to reach job seekers nationwide,
including employment services, recruiters, career coaches, high schools, and the
Workforce Australia network. Whether you’re actively looking or just exploring
future possibilities, start your recruitment today,” the AHC shared. “Together, we can build a stronger workforce through apprenticeships. Let’s invest
in the future of our industry.”

For both employers who can watch the already posted webinar and post jobs to connect with potential apprentices, and job seekers who can also be educated at the upcoming webinar and search for opportunities, the Hairdressing and Barbering Attraction Strategy is elevating the hair industry’s potential in every way.
