Beauty vlogger launches online makeup school
Australian based makeup artist turned beauty vlogger Sharon Farrell is about to launch The Online Makeup School.
The 31-year-old, who was awarded The Makeup Artist Guild Asia Pacific Beauty Vlogger of the Year 2018, catches up with Professional Beauty to talk dewy skin goals, bushy brows and rosy blush.
On the beauty industry:
“I love how supportive creatives are to each other – it can be such a challenging industry to navigate and I’ve found most other makeup artists and stylists are so generous with their time and knowledge.”
Challenges faced:
“It’s always a challenge to get paid fairly. I think every artist gets taken advantage of at some point in their career and it’s very difficult to know your worth when you start out.”
Her online makeup course:
“I’ll be launchin The Online Makeup School this month (November). We’re starting with The Complete Makeup Artistry course for the non-professional beauty lover, but we plan to launch a course geared towards pro artists next year. You can sign up for launch info at www.theonlinemakeupschool.com.”
Social media:
“It’s basically my whole job now so obviously I’m very thankful for the opportunities it’s given me, but I’ve learned to put my phone down and take a break from it every day – it’s so easy to waste your life scrolling on Instagram.”
Fave Instagram account:
“Right now I get major inspiration from Katie Jane Hughes (@katiejanehughes) – she’s an NYC based makeup artist responsible for the Glossier campaigns. She is dewy skin goals.”
Signature looks:
“I’m all about natural skin where you can see some texture and pigment coming through. Pair that with a bushy brow and rosy blush – I’m a fiend for blush – and I’m good to go.”
Fave makeup product:
“Right now I use Benefit’s Cha Cha Tint every single day on my cheeks, lips and even my eyes sometimes. It gives my skin life and is so quick and easy.”
Celebrity makeup crush:
“I always love Chrissy Teigen’s makeup – her skin is fabulously plump and juicy and she rocks a sultry bronze eye.”
Makeup icon:
“Kevyn Aucoin, his books are a big reason I got into makeup in the first place. His ability to enhance and flatter a woman’s face with makeup was astounding.”
Good makeup philosophy:
“When you think it’s blended, blend a little more but also learn when to put the brush down. Oh, and match your damn foundation properly!”
Fave go-to party look:
“I love a slick of flicked-out liner with a coat of translucent glitter over an otherwise bare lid. It’s a little bit 90’s and harks back to my days playing with Claire’s Accessories makeup.”
Where she’ll be partying:
“Probably at a mums ‘n’ bubs music class with my four-month-old!”
Celebrity she’d love to make up:
“Madonna, partly for bragging rights, partly for the stories she could tell, and partly because I love her.”
