Coquette Makeup and Chebula Serum Tops the List of Most Likely 2023 Beauty Trends
UK-based e-commerce site, Beauty Pie has released a list detailing the most talked-about beauty trends across social media.
The list, developed after analysing millions of data points* for hundreds of trends on TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest and Google, was compiled to form ‘The BEAUTY PIE 2023 Trends Report’.
The biggest beauty trends to occur in 2022 were named, and the biggest beauty trends to arise in 2023 were predicted.
This year, it was said some of the most searched skincare and makeup trends included:
- Graphic Eyeliner – 1.6 billion TikTok views, 275,000 Instagram posts.
- Mewing – 1.52 billion TikTok views, 252,300 Google searches, over 12,000 Instagram posts.
- Skin Barrier – 1.5 billion TikTok views.
- Brow Lamination – 1.3 billion TikTok views, 550,000 Google searches, nearly 1,000 Pinterest boards created.
- Niacinamide – 655 million TikTok views.
- Slugging – 493.5 million TikTok views.
- Lash Serum – 418,555,028 total engagement count.
“By analysing Google search data for hundreds of trends, we totalled the number of global searches made on Google over the last year, and compared the results to the previous year to reveal which are increasing in popularity the most,” said Beauty Pie author Nicola Moulton.
Therefore, moving into the new year, the following skincare and makeup trends are predicted to be big:
- Coquette Makeup – overall engagement up by 1,690%.
- Chebula Serum – overall engagement up by 922%.
- Peptide Lip Treatment – overall engagement up by 442%.
- Slugging – overall engagement up by 392%.

* To determine 2022’s biggest trends, the total number of Pinterest boards, Instagram hashtags, TikTok hashtag views, and the average annual Google search volume (in 2022) were combined for hundreds of the biggest trends in beauty right now – across makeup, skincare, body care and haircare. Each trend’s total engagements score was then sorted from highest to lowest, and the top 25 trends with the largest totals made the top 10.
To calculate the biggest up and coming trends for 2023, the experts analysed year-on-year Google search data for each of the trends, comparing the average annual volume over the past 12 months (September 2021 – August 2022 – this is the most recent data available) with the previous 12 months (September 2020 – August 2021) to reveal which are seeing the biggest percentage increases in searches.
