Ella Baché Celebrates 70 Years
Australian skincare brand Ella Baché is celebrating seven decades of operation, proudly meeting the diverse needs in Australian skin. The brand treats thousands of different skin conditions every year in over 100 national Ella Baché salons, offering strong moisture options, sun protection and beyond to cater to the various needs of different sunny, dry or cool Australian climates, speaking to specific states and communities in the process.
The brand was born as Australia’s first ever beauty counter at David Jones, Sydney, launched in 1954, started by beauty therapist Edith Hallas. Edith arrived from Paris and saw the need for Australian skincare innovations that suited out harsh climate.
“Decades of social and climatic change have forever altered how we innovate our product range and treat skin,” shared Pippa Hallas, Ella Baché CEO. “With more sun and the awareness of its damage on skin, more skin on display, processed and fattier foods – never have we been more aware of our skin and our need for solutions. My Great Aunt Madam Baché originally said ‘no two skins are alike and neither are our stories’, which is more relevant now than ever.”
After its launch, the brand then expanded through the next decades, innovating with technology specifically suited to issues with sun damage, reflecting Australia’s ever-growing beach and sports culture. Further skin sensitivities, concerns around ageing and environmental progressions were also catered to in the brand’s expanding ranges, ambassadorships and technologies. The brand’s hero Special Eye Cream has reached over 10 million jars sold to Australians, becoming just one cult staple of this beloved national brand.
“Skin inflammation, allergies and sensitivities have been a focus for Ella Baché in recent years, our salons and Australian products innovate using natural ingredients such as Jojoba Seed Oil and Ginger Extract. They have been a very important development to our business and treating our customers changing skin needs,” Pippa said.
“Ella Baché is the largest privately owned beauty business in Australia of its scale with over 100 salons franchised nationally,” she added.
The business puts unique emphasis on education thanks to the Ella Baché College of Skin and Beauty Therapy, started as the Ella Baché Beauty School many decades ago. This year, they launched the Business of Beauty program to further empower women in the beauty industry. The brand’s commitment to individuality, tailored care and genuine change continues to guide Ella Baché.
“70 years is a wonderful milestone for Ella Baché, we have never deviated from Madam Baché’s mantra that no two skins are alike and remain focused on product innovation that provides salon treatment and product solutions for all Australians as their skin needs change in line with social and climatic evolution, while, always aware of our wonderful heritage and ethos,” Pippa said.
