Foil Me Launch The Board and home. Products
Committed to constantly innovating, Australian foils brand Foil Me has released The Board, a versatile painting accessory that combines sustainability, function and aesthetic as the ultimate colouring tool. The Board is a flexible option that provides hairdressers with a simple and refined colouring process, becoming one of two major recent launches for the brand.
“The concept for The Board has been on my mind since 2018, when I saw hairdressers in the US using one, and then again in Australia. So, when Evan Stowers came to us in early 2020 suggesting we create one, he had watered the seed that had already been planted,” shared Foil Me Founder Emily Ciardiello, who heads the brand with partner Iliano.
“Ili and I really wanted to ensure that no matter what, the board was going to be made from sustainable materials and made in Australia. Whilst this is a more expensive option, it’s so important to us that we try to utilise local businesses as much as possible, without compromising on quality.”
The Board is meticulously designed and made locally, and is entirely constructed from recycled plastic and is 100 per cent recyclable. It includes the brand’s signature embossing, which has adorned its myriad of creative launches, and works to grip the foil and prevent slipping. The innovative tool ensures an even application and can be flipped to offer a smooth surface for hairdressers who prefer painting in this way. The Board also intelligently offers features one straight edge and another slightly curved and is a lightweight tool that perfectly conforms to any contour to enhance comfort and reduce the risk of RSI. For a brand that is passionate about design, there was as much thought given to the board’s aesthetic as its functionality.
“We went through several trials of colours, patterns and materials to ensure that the aesthetics weren’t compromised, finally deciding on a more neutral tone (Ecru) for those who prefer that in their salon, and a pink tone (Dusty Pink) to satisfy the demand for variety. However, in the essence of Foil Me, we had to have that element of ‘luxe’ so each board also has very slight flecks of gold,” Emily said.
“The journey has been a long one, but we know that what we have now is what hairdressers deserve: an efficient, sustainable, aesthetically pleasing and incredibly enjoyable hair tool that ensures hairdressers can create their art with art.”
Beyond this launch, the brand have also expanded into home products, launching reusable food foil wraps as titled home. by Foil Me. Importantly, the product is made with a percentage of recycled aluminium and is 100 per cent recyclable as an eco-conscious option. The versatile food foil wraps can be reused by gently hand washing or wiping after use.
“As a ‘foil family’, we’ve been using foil at home for years instead of cling wrap because it is fully recyclable and so malleable. As foil is just so easy to use, we thought, ‘We could help make life in the kitchen easier for busy people – we should make foil especially for them and make it fun’,” Iliano said.
“With ‘home. by Foil Me’, we have now begun where we started 11 years ago, when we used to provide pre-cut foil sheets for the food industry. It’s actually quite ironic, except now, we are creating a product for the consumer and not for businesses,” Emily added.
The product is designed to keep food fresher for longer, and features adorable motifs of native Australian wildlife, such as the endangered Koala and Southern Nosed Wombat, as well as snacks including sandwiches and choc chip muffins. The choice to include the Koala and Southern Nosed Wombat raises awareness of the value our native wildlife in Australia. $0.20c from every box sold will be donated to Animals Australia, to contribute to the future of Australia’s wildlife.
“I’m really proud of this creation because it not only helps make the lives of busy parents and people easier, but it also assists Animals Australia who provide animals with protection and safety to ensure their survival and that they live a better life,” Emily said.
