How This Beauty Clinic Owner Gives Emerging Artists A Platform

The space is designed to welcome and embrace beauty in all its creative expressions, offering clients an immersive experience that goes beyond the conventional beauty treatment.

In the heart of Brisbane lies a unique fusion of art and beauty, known as Arc Motif, a creative beauty space meets art gallery founded by Kiara Doherty. As the owner, director, and creator of this innovative venture, Kiara has seamlessly blended her passions to create a haven where art and beauty coexist harmoniously.

Kiara’s journey to establish Arc Motif began with her recognition of the beauty industry’s vast clientele, which presented a golden opportunity to offer amplified exposure for emerging artists. By hosting a rotating roster of artists, Kiara has turned Arc Motif into a dynamic space where clients can appreciate diverse artworks while indulging in top-tier beauty treatments. This symbiotic relationship not only enriches the client experience, but also supports the local art community.

Central to Kiara’s philosophy is the belief that art is omnipresent, and discovering art in one’s beauty comes from enhancing what is naturally unique to each individual. This ethos has been the cornerstone of Arc Motif, where beauty and art are celebrated in their most authentic forms.

Before embarking on her journey with Arc Motif, Kiara honed her skills in some of Australia’s most prestigious salons and spas. Her deep-rooted passion for art, wellness, and interiors inspired her to create a space that reflects these elements.

What led to the creation of Arc Motif?

Aside from specialising in brows in some of Australia’s most high end salons and spas, my passions grew outside of that, with a strong interest in art, design and wellness; I wanted to create a space that brings all these things to life. Arc Motif was created when I discovered the high volume of clientele that the beauty industry has to offer makes perfect exposure for emerging or established artists to showcase their work to.

Where did the name ‘Arc Motif’ come from?

When creating Arc Motif I had an entire list on my phone of words or phrases that I liked, I had put a few things together and would seek approval from friends and family to see what they thought… I wanted something symbolic but not too literal.

It wasn’t until I sat with the work ‘Arc’ which would symbolises an arch of a brow without sounding too obvious, and ‘Motif’ which in art terms means ‘a reoccurring pattern or symbol’ that it all clicked. Arc Motif to me is brows reoccurring which is my speciality, but it’s also so much more than that, the name also plays off the art that we display and our gallery system that rotates every season.

Then that was it, I didn’t seek approval from anyone, I just knew in my heart that that is what my business would be named.

What concept do you place on artists within your clinic, do you rotate artists per season? How does it work?

Our art rotates every season, we usually have a group or solo exhibition. Each piece is carefully curated to align with the rest of our space. Every art rotation brings a different energy and a breath of fresh air for us all to enjoy and bask in, and for our clients, keeps things exciting and interesting whenever they walk through the doors.

With each rotation, we usually have some kind of pop up guests or event – our upcoming event includes us doing brows, a tattoo artist doing flash tattoos, a talented jeweller selling their pieces along with drinks and an overall great vibe. I love supporting talented artists whatever their craft may be and bringing the community together.

After the rotation, the pieces stay curated in our space for 3 months for people to view and purchase them, once the rotation is complete, the pieces will be packaged up and sent to their new homes.
