Nine Hair Trend Predictions For 2025

It’s officially 2025 and we’re looking ahead to what will be big in hair this year. From tools, to colours, styles, services and beyond, Marie Nieuwoudt, CLOUD NINE Group Hair Educator, and Mathilde Heather, Salon Owner and CLOUD NINE Ambassador, have looked to online search patterns to spot the trends.

Read on for nine hair trends looking to headline 2025.

Hair Health

The duo are looking at hair health, and they’re not the only ones. Over the past two years, there has been a 21 per cent increase in search interest for the term ‘hair health’.

“Gone are the days of style over condition. In 2025, expect to see more products and tips for caring for your hair and scalp. This trend marks a turning point towards prioritising our hair’s condition for the long term, rather than choosing styles that look good temporarily, but can cause damage,” Marie said.

90s Style

Also leaping up in online searches – ‘90s hair’ has had a 55 per cent increase in search interest since 2022 and ‘90s guy hair’ is being searched 1000 times per month on average – the Millennial love for nostalgia is clearly influencing retro hair trends.

“There are many ways to emulate the 90s with 2025 hair styling choices,” Mathilde shared. “For the girls, the classic Rachel from Friends-inspired cut, baby bangs, and the bouncy blow-dry are all on the cards. For the guys, think longer lengths like ‘90s-era Leonardo DiCaprio-inspired ‘curtains’.”

Healthy Heat

Consumers are paying more attention to heat styling, with ‘hair temperature’ searches increasing by 42 per cent between September 2023 and 2024, and ‘healthy hair heat’ rising by 9 per cent in a single week this year. The duo recommend the CLOUD NINE Temperature Calculator for clients, which asks them questions about hair type, texture, colour and condition to prescribe their ideal hair tool. Tools with variable heat settings also help tailor styling to suit the client.

Claw Clips

“Claw clips are a great choice for quick, easy styling with little risk of damage. Unlike tight elastic hair ties, they hold the hair gently but securely, ensuring your style stays put all day without causing avoidable breakage,” Mathilde shared.

‘Claw clip’ and ‘French twist’ have received a 200 per cent increase since 2022 and 116 per cent increase through 2024, respectively, showing that these trends are back from the early 2000s.

Hair Repair

“While there is no quick fix for extensive damage, over time and with the right treatment, your hair can recover to its former glory. My top tips for anyone looking to revive hair in 2025 are to turn down the heat, use deeply moisturising masks and leave-in products like CLOUD NINE’s Magical Remedy, and choose gentle, low-manipulation hairstyles that reduce the risk of breakage,” Marie shared, adding that ‘hair repair’ has a 25 per cent increase in the last two years.

Natural Hair Colour

Online searches for ‘natural hair colour’ have increased by 89 per cent compared to 2023.

“2025 could be the year of natural shades and styles. In salons, we’ve already seen clients take the plunge to swap their bright highlights and platinum blonde shades for warmer tones like cowboy copper. Now, it seems like natural looks and products are here to stay for another year,” Mathilde shared.

Hair Hacks

Social media users searching for hair hacks had increased a whopping 3700 per cent in September 2024 compared to a year prior, ensuring major ramifications for the ways consumers treat and style their hair.

“Social media hacks can offer fun and innovative ways to style your hair without spending lots of time or money. However, it’s important to consider the impact of certain trends on our hair’s long-term condition. To keep your hair looking and feeling its best in 2025, avoid hacks that involve harsh or rough treatment and heavy products, like tight, slicked-back up styles,” Mathilde said.

Heated Hair Brushes

This search has risen by 103 per cent in the last six months. Marie suggests the CLOUD NINE Hot Brush in a category of tools that use less heat than the typical straightener, making them ideal for touch-up and styling second day hair, or even for on-the-go styling between the office, events and beyond.

Hair Loss Solutions

This hair care category is on the rise, especially for women, who may experience hair loss due to medical treatments, hormonal changes or other factors. Since the start of 2024, there has been a 46 per cent increase in searches for ‘female hair loss’.

“Thankfully, taboos and stigma around hair loss – both for men and women – are becoming a thing of the past,” Marie shared. “Menopausal hair loss is a natural part of every woman’s hair and hormone journey, and with more awareness and education in the public domain, the solutions on offer – both treatments and styling – are extensive. I can say from experience that a micro fringe can work miracles for a thinning hairline.”

Marie places hairdressers as the experts leading these conversations, where a cut or colour transformation can boost clients’ hair confidence and allay these concerns, alongside treatments, tools and products pertaining to hair loss.
