Sustainable Salons win big at The Circle Awards AUS & NZ 2022
In late 2022, Sustainable Salons were recognised for their important impact at The Circle Awards AUS & NZ 2022, which celebrate leaders in the sustainability community, as announced at an event in Carriageworks.
The awards are dedicated to those who put future planet, people and economies first, recognising the local businesses, organisations, projects, and people having a positive environmental and social impact, and building an inspiring community in the process.
Sustainable Salons won in a myriad of categories for this significant work in the salon space in pioneering environmental practices. The team won in categories of B2B, Material & Processes and Judges Choice, which was the main award of the night, with a further nomination for the title of Shape Shifter. Sustainable Salons team members Anuj Dhawan and William Choi attended to accept the awards.
The awards highlight the incredible achievements from Sustainable Salons over their past eight years of operation. The organisation has been able to divert more than 1.2 million kgs of salon resources away from landfill and put it back into the circular economy, creating meaningful jobs for the differently-abled. They have also created closed-loop products like oil spill absorbing hair booms, feeding over 207,000 people by donating all the proceeds made from their resource recovery efforts straight to OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest. Furthermore, they have donated 187,000 ponytails from salons across Australia and New Zealand, which have been utilised as medical wigs for those with medically induced hair loss, alongside so many other major initiatives.
“Three awards in one night were truly a mind-blowing milestone and we truly couldn’t have done it without the beautiful Sustainable Salons members, donors, conscious consumers, and partners who ensure that the mission to Make Sustainability Reality continues to live on every single day,” the team said.
The awards honoured other initiatives around focuses such as sustainable packaging, children’s stories, refillable soda stations, electric vehicle hire, reusable flowers, and inclusive mental health in their finalists and winners. Nick Hoskin, Founder of The Circle Awards, spoke on the night to the power of making a difference and contributing to the betterment of the planet, something Sustainable Salons personifies.
Well done to Sustainable Salons!
