Winter hair trends 2023: What’s in and what’s out, according to Wella ambassador, Elizabeth Mann
Want to know what hair trends are in store for winter 2023? We asked Elizabeth Mann, Wella Passionista ambassador and manager of Hair at Boston, to weigh in on her favourite trends of the season, predictions for the next year, and what styles are on the out.
ProCollective (PC): What cut and colour trends are you observing this winter?
Elizabeth: For my blondes, I’m loving the warmer, more golden tones and for brunettes the rich chocolate tones. I’m really vibing a soft root with a super soft face frame and brighter ends. Soft copper, gold and rich copper is still very on trend too. With foils, I like to maintain more dimension and texture to the colour.
In terms of styles, the bob. It’s very on trend for now, particularly blunt and rounded, contoured bobs. Layers are also on the rise – I love a shaggy layered look to give hair movement.
ProCollective (PC):Do you have any celebrity muses mastering these trends at the moment?
my muse at the moment is Margot Robbie. I’m all about the soft pop of colour in the front contrasted with a natural root. It’s bright but still soft and warm through the rest of the hair. I’ve always loved Chiara Ferragni’s warm, easy maintenance colour – she recently cut her hair short and I’m in love with it.
ProCollective (PC): Are there any hair trends you’ve observed on the decline this year?
Chunky highlights and spilt dye.
ProCollective (PC): In terms of styling, what’s big right now?
The bigger, the better! Think big, bouncy, and soft, like a 70s blow wave. I would use Wella Root Shoot for volume and to boost bounce. You can put velcro rollers in, leave to set while popping makeup on, then take out and style. The 90s side part is also big at the moment. Centre part is still on trend for straight hair but I’m loving the side part with lots of volume, too.
ProCollective (PC): What trends are you predicting you’ll see more of over the next year?
In the next year I think we’ll see longer layers coming through but with more natural curls and waves. Also, short pixie cuts, choppy layered bobs, and plaits.
