Finally, the Dyson Airstrait has Landed in New Zealand

At long last, after Dyson confirmed the Airstrait™ launch back in May last year, the highly anticipated wet-to-dry styler has arrived in New Zealand. With rave reviews from consumers worldwide and having secured TIME’s Best Invention Award for 2023, it seems the wait is worth it.

The Airstrait™ straightener styles and straightens multiple hair types from wet. The tool boasts no hot plates and heat damage, with the hair dried and straightened simultaneously thanks to powerful, focused airflow, resulting in a smooth, shiny finish, as well as hair strength and health. The innovation is part of Dyson’s over a decade long and half a billion-pound pursuit of elevated research and technology development across the beauty category.

“Having a strong understanding of how to manipulate and realise the potential of powerful airflow is fundamental to the performance of the Dyson Airstrait™ straightener. This expertise, which we’ve gained over the last 25 years, is what has enabled us to deliver our first wet to dry straightener, with no hot plates, and no heat damage. Delivering the ease-of-use that people love about straighteners but with high-velocity air blades, saves time, maintains hair strength and achieves an everyday natural straight style,” shared James Dyson, Founder and Chief Engineer.

The tool is built so that the hair tress is contained by two arms, from which a precisely angled high-pressure blade of air is forced downwards and into the hair for drying and straightening, and from which two 1.5mm apertures accelerate the airflow. Projected at a 45° angle, this converges to form one focused jet of air in a downward motion, which helps aligns strands of hair. The powerful and controlled airflow means hair can be dried and straightened with less damage, while maintaining volume and movement.

The Airstrait™ is powered by the Hyperdymium™ motor that anchors Dyson technologies, which is small, light and powerful. A 13-blade impeller spins up to 106,000rpm, propelling over 11.9 litres of air through the machine per second. This generates up to 3.5kPa of air pressure to straighten and dry hair at the same time. The motor smartly fits into the handle at just 27mm in size.

Other features include intelligent heat control that measures the temperature of the airflow up to 16 times per second to prevent heat damage, while both a Wet and Dry styling mode, as well as a setting Cool mode, offer true versatility. The Wet mode has three heat settings, Dry mode has two heat settings and a top up boost, while there are two speed settings for airflow control, alongside a cold shot and root drying mode.
