AFW: O&M and Shark Beauty X Alix Higgins

Australian Fashion Week ushered in its third day with Alix Higgins at Carriageworks and O&M and Shark Beauty were the haircare sponsors, led by hair director award-winning hairdresser and O&M ambassador Daniel Jianing Liu of Usfin Atelier and lead hair stylist Chris Hunter, Shark Beauty Hair Director, the official hair tool partner of Australian Fashion Week.

The team created a unique twist roll on the side of the head, in a 40s and 50s era style that complemented vintage and romantic fashion looks. The look fused a dishevelled element in a strong, sleek overall style.

“We were inspired by the 40s and 50s vintage glamour, and that was translated through the hair,” Daniel said. “There are grungy pieces of hair that have been moulded with a bend, it’s an evolution of the hair from last year’s runway show. The hero product for today’s show is the O&M Atonic Thickening Spritz, we sprayed a lot of Atonic so the hair looks wet, thick and holds the silhouette of the shape of the head.”

“Alix Higgins is one of Australia’s most exciting creative talents,” Chris added. “We are thrilled to partner on the runway show to help bring his stunning vision to life. Shark Beauty’s mission is to enhance natural beauty, unleash fearless energy and ensure that everyone has access to salon quality hair at home.”

The Shark SpeedStyle tool, alongside O&M’s Original Queenie Firm Hold Hairspray, with the Atonic hero product, were backstage heroes.

The bold collection walked a large runway, speaking to the excitement and dynamism around the Alix Higgins brands.

“It’s a continuation of many ideas I’ve contained in my work, of poetry, of emotion but also a sense of the elemental, of strength and vitality and energy. There is a romance and an elegance, and hopefully, a sense of electricity,” Alix said. “Each collection is about refining my practice, pushing for more sustainability, for a stronger image and a better quality product as well.”

How-to Side Part Bun:

  • Prep the hair by spraying Atonic Hair Thickening Spritz all over hair, focusing on the roots to make the hair flat.
  • Brush the hair back away from the face, creating a strong side part and clipping the front side section back.
  • Take a triangle section where the point sits below the occipital bone, and tie the bottom half into a sleek ponytail.
  • Take the rest of the hair down and brush it to make it sleek. Add random flat waves using a straightening iron, making sure not to create any volume.
  • Brush out hair and apply more Atonic to redefine waves, then spray with Original Queenie Firm Hold Hairspray.
  • Use a barber tape to secure the sides of the hair. Take the side part section and twist hair away from the face, into a small bun secured with bobby pins, leaving whispy strands out.
  • Pull small strands from the front of the face to create a messy baby hair look, and create random waves with a flat iron.
  • Set ends of hair using the Shark SpeedStyle Diffuser attachment on medium air and heat.
  • Remove barber tape and finish with Original Queenie Firm Hold Hairspray.
