New Zealand’s largest outlet shopping centre, Dress Smart in Auckland’s Onehunga, has announced plans to expand.

Dress Smart Onehunga is set to add a new three-level retail precinct and increased carparking facilities after securing development rights to neighbouring land. The site, bought from the Auckland Council-controlled organisation, is an asphalted area now used as a carpark at 3 Paynes Lane and 45 Waller St.

The redevelopment spans 7060sqm floor area and will house new retailers and an enhanced food and beverage offering.

The expansion signals increased competition in the outlet space with Auckland Airport’s new $200 million-plus premium outlet shopping centre Manawa Bay scheduled to open in 2024, only 9km from Onehunga.

When the expansion will begin construction is yet to be confirmed.
