Yelp reveals 15 years of beauty trends

During celebrations for its 15th anniversary, user-generated review forum Yelp has released the biggest beauty treatment trends since 2004, with some surprising results. The most searched for treatments of 2019 include dermaplaning, microneedling and hydrafacials, while back in 2005 we were all about the Brazilian, the tanning bed and eyebrow shaping.

“At Yelp, we’re seeing that people are going for beauty treatments that are reflective of a more natural look — ditching the fake tans and permanent makeup and opting for treatments like dermaplaning and microneedling that improve the texture and appearance of skin, so they can let their glowy complexion steal the show,” says Yelp trend expert Tara Lewis.

Last year, according to Allure, a hydrafacial was performed every 15 seconds in the US, which is more than the total number of Botox injections administered in the same period.

Yelp collated the data from the nearly 200 million reviews found on the site.

Some of the most searched-for beauty-related keywords over the years are as follows:

2005 – Lash Tint, Brazilian Bikini Wax, Eyebrow Shaping, Body Scrub/Body Wraps, Tanning Bed
